Whirlaway was a remarkable American Thoroughbred racehorse who achieved fame in the early 1940s. Foaled in 1938, he was bred and owned by Calumet Farm and trained by the legendary Ben A. Jones. Whirlaway’s most notable accomplishment came in 1941 when he became the fifth horse to win the American Triple Crown, capturing the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. His Kentucky Derby victory was particularly impressive and historic, as he set a track record that stood for 21 years.
